Motivation Protocol
Most organizations think about employee motivation through a model of human behavior that heavily focuses on the use of incentives. Unfortunately for those organizations, any model of motivation focusing primarily on incentives will be ineffective. Incentives simply don’t lead to the type of motivation we strive to create, and people respond to incentives in the most creative - and often counterproductive - ways. While the failings of the incentive-based approach to motivation are well documented, a key problem remains: while we know the old model doesn’t work, it’s not clear at all what a new model describing human motivation would look like. In the Motivation Protocol, we tackle this complexity and provide a new foundation upon which we can also understand motivation better - both in ourselves and in others.
